Crossrail 2 public meeting

Crossrail 2 Public Meeting
Wednesday 2nd July at 7pm
The Hideaway, 2 Empire Mews, Streatham, SW16 2ED

'They've been talking about bringing the tube to Streatham for as long as I've been alive!'

You have probably heard something like this every time the topic of the 'tube' comes up.

But what really are the facts and how likely is it that Streatham could get an underground train as part of the Crossrail 2? The latest consultation on Crossrail 2 began on 9th June. People have 6 weeks to respond.

Greens have organised a cross-party meeting, inviting representatives from TfL; Network Rail; & Lambeth Council to set the record straight and discuss the potential of bringing the 'tube' and other improved transport links (including Crossrail 2) to Streatham.

The event is open to all and will be chaired by the well respected community spokesperson, John Stewart (Campaign for Better Transport.)

If you would like to attend email: streathamgreenparty (at) gmail.com to reserve your place.

Please tell your friends and neighbours and help spread the word around Streatham!

New signs to tackle flytipping

We are working with council officers and residents to develop a strategy to tackle the ongoing problem of flytipping in Streatham.

As part of that strategy which we believe must include a range of different measures to tackle the different aspects of the problem, the council have produced these signs, designed to go in flytipping hotspots.

If you have a particular area prone to flytipping and dumping where you think a sign should go, please let us know.

You can contact us: streathamgreenparty (at) gmail.com

For some of the other ways we are working to tackle local flytipping and dumping see:

A small epidemic of raised kerb stones

There appears to have been a small outbreak of raised kerb stones locally, so we've been reporting them (both to Lambeth council and Transport for London depending on where they are located) to get them fixed.

These do cause a major problem, particularly for some older residents, those who are partially sighted and younger children.

Getting them fixed is part of our drive to make local pavements safe and enjoyable for everyone (for more on why this is really important see Living Streets)

In particular we have reported a number around the junction of Ambleside Avenue, Garrad's Road, Tooting Bec Gardens, by Tooting Common, so they can be sorted out.

If you see any locally, let us know and we will get them sorted out.

St Leonard's Ward councillor surgeries

Your Green Party councillors hold surgeries three times a month in St Leonard's Ward, so residents can raise any issues with which they need help.

The surgeries take place on the first, second and third Saturdays of the month 10-11am at Streatham Library.

However we also realise that these times or location may not be convenient for everyone, so we are also very happy to come to you!

Our "mobile surgeries" can come to a location that suits you and at a more convenient time too.  Let us know when and where!

Please get in touch with us if you would like to make an appointment for our Saturday surgeries or another time: ngriffiths@lambeth.gov.uk, jbartley@lambeth.gov.uk, sainslie@lambeth.gov.uk.

New Streatham Green market operator

A new market operator has now been recruited to manage the market at Streatham Green, which will operate around the new Plaza area.

The new operator will be City and Country Farmers Markets Ltd (CCFM) who already do the markets at Herne Hill and Oval, as well as eight other locations around the London area.

It aims to support small producers and get people shopping more locally.

A promotional campaign is expected during the month of July.

The market is scheduled to start trading during the first Saturday in September.
